A busy week: three big AI model releases in about a day, a large Safari release, and plenty of CSS that replaces code you used to write in JavaScript. 70 posts from 30 sources.
The model rush
Opus 5.5, GPT-6 Sol and Grok 4.7 all landed within roughly 24 hours, and Maximilian Schwarzmüller has the overview. Theo went from a first look to a breakdown of Anthropic's tips for Opus 5.5. The other launch people kept talking about was Jev, TypeSafe AI's fast, cheap model for classification and structured decisions: see Theo, midudev (in Spanish) and Front-End Fire.
Browsers
- Safari 27 is a big one: an MCP server that lets agents debug your work, scroll anchoring and the customizable
<select>. Frontend Focus has the summary. - Chrome 154 lets iframes resize themselves to their content, which suits embedded comments and widgets.
- Edge and Chromium added the OpaqueRange API,
referenceTarget,aria-actionsand WebMCP, rounded up by Patrick Brosset. He also picked his favourite Interop 2027 proposals, with links to vote for them. - With the iPhone Duo announced, foldables are back: Syntax covers the Device Posture and Viewport Segments APIs, and Stephanie Stimac revisits designing for them.
CSS
- Frontend Focus lists 12 CSS features that can retire your dependencies, and Kevin Powell makes the same case on video.
- Ahmad Shadeed detects overlapping elements with only anchor positioning and scroll-driven animations.
- Temani Afif uses the new
random()function for random blob shapes, and Master.dev shows how to place an element at a random spot along another element's edge. - Patrick Brosset looks at a proposal for blurry image previews built into the platform, and Master.dev explains HDR colours that are brighter than white.
- Andy Bell shows how to stop buttons zooming the page when they're double tapped.
React and Node
React 19.3 made <ViewTransition> stable, and LogRocket compares it with Motion. React Status reports signals coming to React-Redux, and Node Weekly tours 12 Node built-ins that replace npm packages.
Accessibility
The W3C explains the stakes of writing WCAG 3, and a Master.dev author explains why dark mode is an accessibility feature for them: bright screens bring on headaches.
