Privacy

No accounts, no cookies, and only anonymous page view counts.

Analytics

The site uses Umami to count page views, so we know which pages and sources people read. For each page view it records the time, the page's address (without anything after a “?”, so not your searches), the page title, the site you came from, your approximate location, your language, screen size, browser, operating system and device type.

It also counts a few clicks: opening a post (with its source, first topic and whether it's an article, video or podcast), sharing one, saving one, and playing a video or episode. Never what you search for.

It sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device. Umami tells visits apart with a hash that changes every month, keeps no personal data, and only shows us totals, so nothing here can identify you or follow you to other sites.

To opt out, turn on Global Privacy Control in your browser (some, like Firefox, Brave and DuckDuckGo, have it built in): nothing is sent from browsers that send it. Blocking JavaScript or using a content blocker works too.

Kept in your browser

Your theme, text size, saved posts and when you last visited (for the “New” badges) are kept in your browser's local storage. They never leave your device; clearing the site's data removes them.

Videos and podcasts

Video cards load nothing from YouTube until you press play. The player then comes from youtube-nocookie.com, and YouTube's own privacy policy applies to it. Podcast episodes likewise stream from the podcast's own host only once you press play.
